Job Title: Assistant Farm Manager
Department: Growing
Reports To: Farm Manager/VP of Farming Operations
FLSA Status: Exempt
Key Responsibilities:
- Coordinate with supervisor all weekly and monthly activities.
- Work with employees in order to coordinate daily and weekly activities.
- Conduct monthly training sessions in coordination with supervisor.
- Accurately assess employee’s performance requiring evaluation as assigned.
- Supervise and correct all process in planting, weed control, pest control, fertilizations, irrigation, monitoring and miscellaneous activities.
- Provide a daily report of irrigation, pest management, nutrient deficiencies and daily activities.
- Responsible to keep all paper work in order in a daily basis.
- Responsible to maintain his area clean.
- Responsible to maintain and correct all the safety regulation.
- Expected to perform the essential duties and responsibilities in a safe manner and according to the standard set by B & W.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Yes – Supervises 2-6 Growers of watercress. Works with Supervisor to monitor training and development needs and provides input on hiring, discipline, and terminations.
Qualifications:
- Education and/or Experience: Bachelor's degree in agriculture or related field. 3+ years of experience in agriculture and operating farm machinery.
- Communication Skill Level: Bilingual (English/Spanish) required. Effective written and verbal communication skills for preparing reports, administrative paperwork, and email correspondence.
- Computer Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Exchange.
- Preferred Qualifications: Strong leadership skills with proven experience in watercress cultivation and knowledge of soil management, fertilization, weed control, and IPM.
- Certifications and/or Licenses Required: Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
Physical Demands/Travel Requirements:
- Must be able to perform various physical tasks, including lifting and carrying up to 50lbs occasionally.
- Occasional travel may be required to Northern or Southern Farms for monitoring growth, quality, production, personnel, and training.
Work Environment:
- Must be able to work outdoors in hot, wet, and humid conditions, as well as indoors in air conditioning. Exposure to sun, wind, soil, rain, and various plant and animal life is expected.
